Remember that slogan from the 70's, Reading Is Fundamental This is as true today, if not more so, than ever before. With some states basing the future number of prison beds on the present day fourth grade literacy rate, reading is not only fundamental; it's imperative.

When I started writing my first children's novel, Far Beyond, it was simply to bring a magical journey between two unlikely friends to life. As the story developed however, I imagined that it could, not only entertain children and young adults alike, but also help kids develop their reading skills. And when local educators took an interest in presenting this story to their students, I began to formulate this project.

So here I am, seeking to entertain and enhance the reading skills of young readers and polishing these new abilities with the assistance of educators.  The problem is that I do not have the funds necessary to achieve all of these goals. Where can I turn to raise funds to buy books to donate to area schools and hire a teacher or two to create supplemental materials for my books Hmmmm . . . KICK STARTER, of course!

I'm hoping that the Kick Starter community will help me realize my dream of supplying books to schools, free of charge. For every student I reach, it is my fondest wish to give each and every one of them a copy of "Far Beyond" or "Where Do I Belong: The Adventures of Tuft", depending on their age group.  Short descriptions of each book as well as a link to each can be found below.  (Click on name of the book(s))

With the proper funding, I will also be able to look forward to working with teachers to create teacher's guide for these first two books and their sequels.

Depending on how this initial project is funded, I would also like to visit more schools to do live readings and presentations of "Far Beyond" and "Where Do I Belong" and leave as many copies behind as needed.

It is my ultimate goal to bring other talented authors and illustrators of children's books on board, so they too can offer their works to students for free. Help me get, what I intend to eventually be a self-perpetuating and expanding program, started.

Donate one dollar, ten dollars or as much as you can and let's make reading FUNdamental again.  Remember, more donations mean more books to kids, so don't just donate; have your friends donate and their friends and so on and so on.

Far Beyond

Far Beyond, the first book in the series by the same name follows the epic journey of two friends, a well-behaved little girl named Kelcy and Fabian, a Mischief Mockian or Mischief Maker to those of us here on Earth.  Together, this unlikely pair must save Fabian's home world from an evil not seen in hundreds of years and discover this Mischief Mockian's fate for impersonating a tooth fairy . . He has a good reason for doing this, by the way.

The story of Far Beyond came to me the day my niece Kelcy told me that she had lost one of her front teeth. From the initial spark ignited that day, the story grew into a magical world where travelers can literally experience the joy of an entire city and the smallest inhabitants can prove to be its biggest heroes.  Currently, I am working on the sequel to Far Beyond. This second story, called The Guardian's Plight follows the continued adventures of Kelcy and Fabian, as they seek to discover the history of giant living statues known only as the Guardians.  If funds permit, I would also like to eventually offer copies of this sequel for free at live readings as well.

Where Do I Belong: The Adventures of Tuft

The first book in the "Tuft's Adventures" series, "Where Do I Belong" follows a mischievous stuffed teddy bear, as he sets out on an adventure that will take him to exciting and sometimes scary places.

The story and illustrations in "Where Do I Belong" will delight young readers and help develop their passion for reading, as they learn more about their favorite mischievous teddy bear.
